R2A Agar is expertly formulated for the cultivation and enumeration of water-borne heterotrophic bacteria, chlorine-tolerant strains, and slow-growing environmental microorganisms in industrial sectors. This specialized low-nutrient medium is specifically designed for testing low-nutrient water samples—especially clean water, drinking water (including bottled water), purified/distilled water, and water treatment systems, including purified water systems, highly purified water (HPW), and water for injection (WFI) used in industrial manufacturing and quality control facilities.
Inoculate samples and incubate at 30 - 35°C, with initial readings observed after 24 to 72 hours (extending up to 5–7 days for comprehensive water testing). Trusted across industries, this medium is recommended by the European Pharmacopoeia and standard water quality guidelines for monitoring industrial water systems and environmental controls.
To ensure optimal quality control and performance verification, standard strains such as Staphylococcus aureus (ATCC 6538), Pseudomonas aeruginosa (ATCC 9027), Bacillus subtilis (ATCC 6633), and Escherichia coli recover successfully when inoculated at $\le 100$ cfu and incubated at 30 - 35°C for up to 3 days. For Candida albicans (ATCC 10231) and Aspergillus brasiliensis (ATCC 16404), incubation is recommended for up to 5 days.
